Properties of 304 Stainless Steel

Type 304 Stainless Steel is a variation of the basic ‘18/8’ grade, Type 302, with higher chromium and lower carbon content. Type 304 Stainless Steel can be exposed continuously to a maximum temperature of 899°C (1650°F) without appreciable scaling. For intermittent exposure, the maximum temperature is around 816°C (1500°F). Types 304 Stainless Steel have very good drawability. Their combination of low yield strength and high elongation permits successful forming of complex shapes.
